Sheikh Mohammed was present at the momentous occasion in January 1968, when Sheikh Rashid of Dubai and Sheikh Zayed of Abu Dhabi first met to agree to the formation of a union between the emirates. Subsequently, the new nation the United Arab Emirates was founded on December 2, 1971, and Sheikh Mohammed became the nation’s first Minister of Defence. Princess Haya’s ex-husband must compensate her for possessions lost as a result of the marital breakdown, make a one-off payment of £251.5m for the upkeep of her homes in the UK, contribute £3m towards the education of their children, and pay £9.6m in arrears.

Judge Moor ruled: “She [Princess Haya] is not asking for an award for herself other than for security.”
